Pulaski, TN — The and the City of Pulaski are pleased to announce the official opening of the D. Ann Neville Tennis Complex at Magazine Road Park. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place today, September 5, 2024, at 1:30 pm, with dignitaries including Mayor JJ Brindley, Vice Mayor Ricky Keith, Alderman Pat Miles, Alderman Jerry Bryant, Alderman Larry Worsham, City Administrator Terry Harrison, representatives from the Giles County Chamber of Commerce, and Ann Neville, the longtime Dean of Students during the Martin Methodist College era, in attendance.

The D. Ann Neville Tennis Complex, named in honor of Dean Neville in recognition of her generous gift to help fund this important project, marks a major milestone for both the campus and the Pulaski community. The new facility is the result of a successful partnership between and the City of Pulaski, who together refurbished and expanded the existing city tennis courts. funded the addition of two new courts and contributed to the overall renovation of the complex, while the City of Pulaski made necessary updates to the four existing courts. With six courts now available, the facility enhances the university’s athletic programs and offers the community greater access to a high-quality space for recreational tennis.

“The opening of the D. Ann Neville Tennis Complex represents a significant step forward for both our campus and the City of Pulaski,” said Dr. Linda C. Martin, Interim Chancellor, . “This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together toward a common goal. We are deeply grateful to the City of Pulaski and to everyone who made this facility possible. It will benefit our students, athletes, and the local community for many years to come.”

Thursday’s celebration reflects the spirit of collaboration between and the City of Pulaski, reinforcing a shared commitment to providing valuable amenities that enhance the quality of life in our community.

The , in collaboration with the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, Pulaski Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, Pulaski Fire Department, and Giles County Emergency Services (including EMS, OEM, and County Fire and Rescue), will conduct an active threat drill on July 30, 2024, on The Campus.

This comprehensive drill is designed to enhance our local emergency services’ preparedness and response capabilities in the event of a real-life active threat scenario. For most of the day, the exercise will involve a wide range of emergency vehicles and personnel operating near campus.

We want to assure the community that this is strictly a drill. Numerous emergency vehicles and personnel are part of a planned training exercise, so there is no cause for alarm.

This drill is a proactive measure to ensure our emergency response protocols are robust and effective. Collaboration between various emergency response teams is crucial. This drill will help us to coordinate efficiently and effectively in the event of an actual emergency.

Pulaski, TN – The proudly announces that Claire Paul, Assistant Professor in the Division of Education and Program Coordinator for Special Education, has been honored with the prestigious 2024 President’s Award. This accolade was presented by University of Tennessee System President Randy Boyd during the annual UT Board of Trustees meeting held earlier this week in Knoxville.

The President’s Awards are the highest honor bestowed upon UT System faculty and staff, recognizing their exceptional contributions, dedication, and alignment with the University’s Be One UT values. This year, fifteen distinguished individuals from across the UT System were selected for their outstanding achievements.

President Boyd expressed his admiration for the awardees, stating, “The President’s Awards highlight the exceptional work and commitment demonstrated by our faculty and staff throughout Tennessee. Their contributions are invaluable in making this the greatest decade in UT history. It is an honor and privilege to work alongside them in serving the people of our great state.”

“Claire embodies the spirit of excellence and innovation that we hold dear at . Claire Paul has been recognized in the Bold and Impactful category, which celebrates faculty members who have made significant and lasting contributions to their fields and the University. Her innovative work in special education and dedication to fostering an inclusive learning environment have distinguished her as a leader and advocate within the community.

Established in 2016, the President’s Awards annually honor UT System faculty and staff who exemplify the University’s mission to educate, discover, and connect. Each award recipient receives a commemorative plaque inspired by the University of Tennessee president’s medallion and a monetary award of $3,000.

The 2024 recipients represent a diverse group from UT Knoxville, UT Chattanooga, , UT Martin, UT Health Science Center, UT Institute for Agriculture, UT Institute for Public Service, and the UT Space Institute in Tullahoma. PULASKI, Tenn. – The has announced the hiring of Ross James as the next Women’s basketball head coach.

“We are thrilled to hire Coach James to lead the women’s basketball program at ,” said Vice Chancellor/Athletic Director Brandie Paul. “Coach James brings a wealth of experience and a holistic vision for the program’s future, which is exactly what we are seeking. We are confident that he will continue to elevate our women’s basketball program and have an immediate impact on the lives of our student-athletes.” 

James comes to after serving as an assistant coach at several NCAA Division I institutions, most recently at Fordham University. Additionally, he has held assistant coaching positions at Utah State University and Sacred Heart University. 

“I am honored to join the family and look forward to the seasons ahead,” said Coach James. “Thank you to Chancellor Dr. Linda Martin and Vice Chancellor/Athletic Director Brandie Paul for entrusting me with the women’s basketball program. I am grateful for the opportunity and want to thank my past and present mentors for their guidance. I am confident in our direction, and I look forward to leading our team with hard work and purpose.” 

James’ coaching journey includes a remarkable four-season stint as head coach at NCAA Division III Mary Baldwin University. He led the Fighting Squirrels to a significant turnaround, achieving a 17-10 record in the 2018-19 season, a notable improvement from their previous 2- 23 standing. Under his guidance, the team made three consecutive USA South Tournament appearances and recruited multiple All-Conference players. These achievements earned him the USA South Coach of the Year and D3 Hoops South Region Coach of the Year honors in 2019. 

Before his head coaching role, James served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Lafayette College, where he demonstrated his talent in identifying and nurturing players. He received recognition for the Blue Star Honorable Mention Recruiting Class in 2017. 

James holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology from Millsaps College and a master’s degree in kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University. His collegiate basketball career at Millsaps was marked by a successful junior season with a 28-4 record and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA D-III Tournament. 

Ross James’ appointment brings extensive experience and dedication to the women’s basketball program, positioning it for continued success and growth.

PULASKI, Tenn. – The has announced that head men’s basketball coach Dugan Lyne has resigned from his position to pursue a new coaching opportunity.

Coach Lyne began his journey at as an assistant coach in 2012 and took over as the program’s head coach in 2018, marking his first head coaching opportunity. Over his six seasons as head coach, Lyne achieved an impressive overall career record of 109-69.

“For the past 12 years, my wife, Erin, and I have called this university and Pulaski our home. The people here at and the town of Pulaski have made this an amazing time in our lives. I am proud to have been a part of the men’s basketball program and will always cherish our time here,” said Coach Lyne. “I want to thank my current assistant, Jordan Counts, as well as my former assistants, Caleb Chowbay, Jason Laatsch, and Jeff Hinshaw. Special thanks to Director of Athletics, Brandie Paul, former Director of Athletics, Jeff Bain, and my close friend and mentor, Scott Combs.”

“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Coach Lyne for his dedication to our men’s basketball program and are proud of his decision to pursue further growth in his coaching career,” said Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Brandie Paul. “We are incredibly grateful for Coach Lyne’s service and commitment to the men’s basketball program and the over the past 12 years. We wish him and his family the very best in their future endeavors.”

Under Lyne’s leadership, celebrated two 20+ win seasons, including his best season with the Firehawks in 2023-24, where they achieved a 27-6 record. The team ranked as high as No. 7 in the NAIA National Coaches’ Poll and clinched the Southern States Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. Additionally, Lyne reached the milestone of 100 career wins and was named the SSAC Coach of the Year.

Throughout his tenure at , Lyne guided the program to two conference tournament championships (2013 TranSouth, 2015 Southern States) and five National Tournament appearances (2013, 2015, 2017, 2022, 2024). He also coached and recruited six All-Americans, 21 all-conference selections, one Conference Newcomer of the Year, and one Conference Freshman of the Year.

Before joining , Lyne spent one season with NCAA Division III Manchester University, one season with NCAA Division III Westminster College, and two seasons as the Graduate Assistant and Director of Basketball Operations at NCAA Division I Austin Peay State University.

The will immediately begin a national search for the next head coach of the men’s basketball team, continuing to build on the strong foundation laid by Coach Lyne and paving the way for future opportunities.

Pulaski, Tennessee – The proudly honors the remarkable career and announces the retirement of Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Billy Evans, effective July 1, 2024. Beginning his tenure when the institution was known as Martin Methodist College (MMC), which transitioned to following its acquisition by the University of Tennessee in July 2021, Coach Evans has been a pivotal figure in UTS athletics, serving from 2018 to 2024 and amassing 77 wins, placing him second on the program’s all-time wins list.

During his tenure, Evans has not only marked his presence on the court but also made significant contributions off it. He entered the season ranking 21st on the NAIA active coach’s win list. In 2020, he led the MMC Redhawks to a runner-up finish in the Southern States Atlantic Conference Tournament, guiding the campus to a league championship game for the first time since 2018.

Before joining , Coach Evans helmed the University of Mobile’s basketball program from 2012-2018, achieving 106 wins and leading the team to the NAIA championship in 2014 and 2017. His leadership has left an indelible mark on the SSAC record books in numerous individual and team categories.

Reflecting on his retirement, Coach Evans shared, “This is a bittersweet moment for me as a very important chapter of my professional life ends. I have loved being a basketball coach for three decades and am so grateful for the many blessings and opportunities this profession has given me. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has been a part of my journey here at Martin Methodist / – administrators, coaches, athletic trainers, and all the support stuff that make up Athletics department. Most of all, I want to thank the student-athletes I have been privileged to coach over the years. The students are why I got into coaching and will be the ones I will miss the most in the day-to-day.”

Evans expressed his gratitude towards former MMC Athletic Director Jeff Bain for the opportunity to coach at MMC/, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Brandie Paul, for her unwavering support, Interim Chancellor Dr. Linda C. Martin for her passionate support of the university, and the dedicated Athletics staff including Jenn Carroll, Assistant Coach Maria Zimdars, and Zach O’Kelly for their exceptional contributions to the program.

In appreciation of Coach Evans’ legacy, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Brandie Paul, added, “Coach Evan’s dedication to the development of our student-athletes, both on and off the court, has been exemplary. His impact on athletics will be felt for many years to come. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”
